"PRESIDENT OF INDIA "

Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Sir, the “People’s President” of India:

Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam – The People’s President of India

Dr. Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen Abdul Kalam, lovingly remembered as “Missile Man of India” and “People’s President”, was one of the most respected leaders in modern India. His life was a true inspiration that showed how dedication, knowledge, and humility can make a person great.

Early Life

Dr. Kalam was born on 15th October 1931 in Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu, in a modest family. His father was a boat owner and his mother a homemaker. Despite financial struggles, young Kalam showed immense curiosity towards learning. He sold newspapers to support his education, but his determination never allowed difficulties to come in the way of his dreams.

Contribution as a Scientist

After completing his studies in Aeronautical Engineering from Madras Institute of Technology, Dr. Kalam joined the Defense Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and later the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). He played a key role in developing India’s first Satellite Launch Vehicle (SLV-III) which successfully deployed the Rohini satellite in space.

He was also the guiding force behind India’s missile development programs such as Agni and Prithvi, earning him the title “Missile Man of India.” His leadership in the Pokhran-II nuclear tests of 1998 made India a strong nuclear power, giving the nation a sense of pride and security.

President of India

In 2002, Dr. Kalam was elected as the 11th President of India. Unlike traditional politicians, he was loved by all sections of society—students, teachers, scientists, and common people. He brought simplicity and dignity to the Rashtrapati Bhavan and often interacted directly with students, motivating them to dream big.

He strongly believed that “Dreams are not what you see in sleep; dreams are those that don’t let you sleep.” This message inspired millions of young Indians to think beyond limitations and work hard for their goals.

Teacher at Heart

Even after completing his presidential term in 2007, Dr. Kalam continued to work as a teacher, visiting schools and universities across the nation. He always said that he wanted to be remembered as a teacher first, more than a scientist or president.

Awards and Achievements

  • Bharat Ratna (India’s highest civilian award)
  • Padma Bhushan and Padma Vibhushan
  • Authored inspirational books like Wings of Fire, Ignited Minds, and India 2020

Final Journey

On 27th July 2015, while delivering a lecture at IIM Shillong, Dr. Kalam collapsed and passed away doing what he loved most—teaching and inspiring students. His death left the entire nation in grief, but his legacy continues to inspire future generations.

Legacy

Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam’s life is a shining example of how a simple boy from Rameswaram became the President of India through knowledge, hard work, and humility. He taught us that education is the most powerful weapon for progress and that every young Indian has the potential to transform the nation.

In essence, Dr. Abdul Kalam was not just the President of India, he was the President of every Indian’s heart.
